Here’s a look at some interesting events that took place on this day in history: 1831: Charles Darwin embarks on his journey aboard the HMS Beagle, during which he will begin to formulate the theory of evolution (more info) 1900: Prohibitionist Carry Nation smashes up her first saloon, causing several thousand dollars in damage and landing in jail (more info)

Mt. Rushmore, a.k.a. the President's Mountain is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  It was formally dedicated on October 31, 1941, and draws as many as three million visitors annually.

On this day in 1981, MTV debuted.  At the time, they played music videos.  The first video they played was by the Buggles (remember them?) "Video Killed the Radio Star."

On July 30th  in 1954, 19-year old Elvis Presley appeared in concert for the first time at the Overton Park Orchestra Shell in Memphis, Tennessee.  Elvis was third on the bill, behind country crooner Slim Whitman.
