Let's face it, the city of Flint needs to raise some money. If you want to park your vehicle on or close to Saginaw Street, it'll cost you a dollar an hour. The new parking meters will be a little different that the ones we've seen before. The kiosks will be solar powered and will take coins and credit cards. It is expected that all the parking kiosks will be operational in about 30 days.

Flint had a plan to have new parking meters up and collecting by the time we hit "Back to the Bricks" week, but the plan is now on hold. The problem? The city's meter ordinance prohibits the Downtown Development Authority from installing them. Originally the Flint DDA had hoped to have about 200 parking meters in place this summer, but the ordinance that allows them to install the meters and collect the money expired before they could be ordered and installed.
