Tiger 3rd baseman Miguel Cabrera took a hard shot to the face on a batted ball in the first inning of today's Grapefruit League game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The experiment to move Cabrera back to his old position (3rd) after acquiring free agent slugger Prince Fielder to play first base hit a snag today. In his first three weeks back at third, Cabrera had done quite well. Today's incident was a reminder that the move to third for the reigning American League batting champion comes with considerable risk.

Detroit Tiger first baseman Miguel Cabrera has pleaded no contest to a drunken driving charge in Florida. The incident occurred last February near Ft. Pierce, Florida when the Tiger slugger was arrested after refusing a field sobriety test. Cabrera accepted a deal that spares him jail time. Charges of resisting an officer without violence and having an open container in a vehicle were dropped.

Brad Penny has struggled this season as a Tiger pitcher. He didn't get much help from his defense today and that set the stage for a fun day for Chicago hitters. An error on what could have been an inning-ending doubleplay in the 4th led to 5 White Sox runs (4 unearned) and the Tigers were down 6-1. Penny didn't help himself much in the next inning, allowing back-to-back jacks and suddenly the rout was on as Chicago held an 8-1 lead. The Tigers did not give up.
