As of 1:30 pm today, it appears that phone service throughout Michigan is beginning to be restored. We'll update this story as more progress is made.

I got a call from my babysitter just before 9:00am telling me that the bus never showed up to pick up the kids for school. They had been waiting for close to an hour, so I decided to drive the kids myself. When I tried calling the school, I got the message, "the number you have reached has been disconnected or is no longer in service."

After months of above normal temps for winter in Michigan, Saturday looks to be a chilly one. A perfect day to go for a dip in Lake Fenton. For someone to do something silly like jumping in a lake in Michigan in February, there had better be a really good reason for it. There is, a really "special" reason. The Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge will benefit Special Olympics of Michigan. The festivities begin on Friday at the Fenton Moose Lodge with a pre-plunge party and registration starting at 6 pm.

Doing something completely crazy for a noble cause makes it okay. Jumping into Lake Fenton in February qualifies as certifiably crazy. Doing it to help raise money for Special Olympics, and knowing that you won't be the only one makes it seem like the "right thing to do".
