Jose Valverde is still perfect in save situations this season. The problem is that he has been pretty awful in non-save situations all year long. Tonight, in a non-save situation he was blown out again. After an 8 pitch 10th inning, Valverde gave up a double to Josh Hamilton on the very first pitch of the 11th. Austin Jackson had another 3-hit day today.  Yesterday, he had three more hits than the entire Blue Jay team, but it went unnoticed as Justin Verlander pitched a no-hitter.  Today, Jackson's hits were hard to ignore.  Especially his two-run homer to give Detroit the lead 4-2 in the 7th inning.

Some of the players responsible for prolonging the Tiger 7-game losing streak finally helped to end it.  Austin Jackson, Magglio Ordonez and Jose Valverde all made contributions in the 4-2 Tiger win over New York tonight at Comerica Park.

Justin Verlander didn't have his best command.  But he pitched a gutsy 6 innings and only allowed 3 runs to the Yankees while striking out 8.  He was still throwing 99 and 100 mph, 130 pitches into the game.

It's the first time the Tigers have won a road series this season.  After a terrible beating at the hands of the weak-hitting Seattle Mariners last night, the Tigers rode the suddenly good pitching of Rick Porcello to beat the M's 3-2 this afternoon.
