Detroit Tigers Blown Out In Extra Innings, Valverde Gives Up 4 in 11th

Jose Valverde is still perfect in save situations this season. The problem is that he has been pretty awful in non-save situations all year long. Tonight, in a non-save situation he was blown out again. After an 8 pitch 10th inning, Valverde gave up a double to Josh Hamilton on the very first pitch of the 11th. After striking out the next hitter, the Tigers elected to intentionally walk Adrian Beltre to pitch to Mike Napoli in hopes of inducing a double play.

Tigers Jack Jays, 5-2

Austin Jackson had another 3-hit day today.  Yesterday, he had three more hits than the entire Blue Jay team, but it went unnoticed as Justin Verlander pitched a no-hitter.  Today, Jackson's hits were hard to ignore.  Especially his two-run homer to give Detroit the lead 4-2 in the 7th inning.

Tigers End Losing Streak, Beat Yankees 4-2

Some of the players responsible for prolonging the Tiger 7-game losing streak finally helped to end it.  Austin Jackson, Magglio Ordonez and Jose Valverde all made contributions in the 4-2 Tiger win over New York tonight at Comerica Park.

Tigers Let Another Get Away, Losing Streak At Seven

Justin Verlander didn't have his best command.  But he pitched a gutsy 6 innings and only allowed 3 runs to the Yankees while striking out 8.  He was still throwing 99 and 100 mph, 130 pitches into the game.

It's the first time the Tigers have won a road series this season.  After a terrible beating at the hands of the weak-hitting Seattle Mariners last night, the Tigers rode the suddenly good pitching of Rick Porcello to beat the M's 3-2 this afternoon.
