It was announced a month ago that Mariah Carey would become a judge on ‘American Idol‘ for its upcoming season, filling one of the seats left vacant by former judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. People may still be recovering from the shock of the announcement, but ‘Idol’ winner Jordin Sparks thinks Carey will be a great fit.

Jordin Sparks covers the September issue of Redbook, showing off her famously fit figure. Sparks’ dramatic weight loss has been much-discussed in the press, but it’s a positive thing, since she looks terrific, especially in that sparkly, sequined peach mini skirt. More importantly, she’s healthy! The ‘Sparkle’ singer/actress also spoke about her co-star and idol Whitney Houston.

Four months after Whitney Houston's death, RCA records has released the first single from the movie soundtrack 'Sparkle'. The song is 'Celebrate' by Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks.

'Sparkle' which was filmed partially in Detroit, will be Whitney Houston's final movie. It tells the story of a Supremes-like group in the 1960s, and also stars American Idol Jordin Sparks.

'Sparkle' is scheduled for release on August 17th.

Whitney Houston's Last TV Appearance, Promotes Movie Filmed in Detroit [VIDEO]

In the latter months of 2011, Whitney Houston was in Detroit filming scenes from what will now be her last movie, 'Sparkle.' The movie is set in Detroit during the Motown era, and also features American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. Houston and Sparks spoke with 'Entertainment Tonight' about the project.

Houston, who passed away suddenly yesterday, plays Sparks' mother in the remake of the Curtis Mayfield film. It's scheduled to be released in August, and Sony says there are no plans to alter its release date.
