Joe Biden Visits Flint To Promote Jobs Bill [VIDEO]

The White House isn't giving up on President Obama's jobs bill, which has stalled in the Senate. Visiting a fire department in Flint, Vice President Joe Biden said the jobs bill would help save the jobs of police and firefighters.

Biden said he and the President will continue to "go over the heads" of lawmakers and take their case directly to the American people.

3rd Annual Zombie Walk Saturday In Flint

It is an unsightly spectacle. Zombies walking the streets of downtown Flint. It happens for the third year this Saturday from 1-4pm, in conjunction with World Zombie Day. The walk this year is raising funds for the Michigan School for the deaf. Admission is a $10 donation, but you can pay what you can afford to be a part of the fun!

I was born in Flint in 1959 at St. Joseph hospital. I grew up in the Flint area like many of you. My Dad worked for Chevrolet, I saw first-run movies at the Capitol Theatre, concerts at the "old" IMA, shopped for groceries at Hamady Brothers, clothes at Smith-Bridgeman and drank beer before I was old enough at the Mikatam. Growing up in and around Flint was a unique yet shared experience. When asked to write my Top 5 list of Little Known/Unusual facts about Flint I quite frankly didn't know where to start. Flint is one quirky/unusual city. That's not a bad thing. So here we go with a handful of things you might not know or may have forgotten about Flint, Michigan.

City Of Flint Might Lease Three Golf Courses

How many cities own public golf courses? How many own four? Count the City of Flint for both! And now, the city wants out of the golf course business before they have to close the final two public courses. Two are already shuttered. The city is working on a plan that would hopefully keep all four open. The city hopes to privatize, and do it without straining the city's budget. Three organizations have already submitted bids to run the golf courses and the city is considering a lease for at least three of them.

Thursday Night ‘Bricks” Cruise Hours Altered By Massive Crowds

The City of Burton earlier this afternoon adjusted the hours of this evenings "Back to the Bricks" cruise along Saginaw street. The cruise tonight will shut down at 9pm sharp according to local police. Crowds have been even larger than expected and police are concerned for the safety of everyone on the cruise, and those large crowds settled in along the side of the road.

A local group is on a mission to organize community service activity to help make Flint a better place to live and work. They are looking for volunteers who would like to help with things like light raking or picking up trash on our streets. They plan to meet this Saturday, August 20th at Dort Elementary school at 601 E. Witherbee St, near Saginaw St. and Hamilton Avenue. Bring your own work gloves and maybe a tall ladder to help work on swing set chains.

Genesee County's seldom used mobile command vehicle could be headed to Canada after a Montreal company was the sol bidder for the 52 foot vehicle. The bid came in the final hours of an online auction that expired Wednesday. The $66,000 bid is $34,000 below the minimum the county wanted.
