This week is 'Screen Free Week'. Families are encouraged to put away the cell phones and iPads. Do a shut down on the computer and say hello to your family. Should you participate? Could you participate?
Spring is here, and playgrounds will be star attractions for parents and children alike. Slides were always one of my favorite things to play on, and I've gone down them as a parent with one of my kids on my lap. I didn't realize the danger. Hear it straight from a doctor's point of view after the jump.
There should be a category for "Facebook Fights" somewhere on Facebook. I personally know of a few families that had considerable altercations about something that had been posted by one of its' members on Facebook. A family in Minnesota probably had some challenging dinner conversations after an uncle was sued for posting embarrassing photos of his nephew on Facebook. The lawsuit was dismissed by a district court that claimed the lawsuit had no merit.
A family in California has decided not to spend any money this month, except to buy milk for the kids. Mom and dad were bothered by how much money they spent over the holidays so they decided to test this out as an experiment.
Where has all the commercialism gone? This year, the majority of Americans “don’t care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree,” as Mariah Carey sings. Their favorite aspect of the holiday season is the time they get to spend with loved ones.
I’m a father of three, two daughters (my youngest Mindy to the left) and one boy and they’re all grown up now. But I remember how it was between all of them very clearly, like it was yesterday. The girls got along and my son was the troublemaker in the bunch. My view as a father is that boys are easier, because I didn’t worry about him nearly as much when he got to be a teenager as I did the girls, you know, that whole dating thing, boys etc. A study of more than 2100 parents showed that the most harmonious situation was having two daughters. ‘Best to Worst’ list after the jump.
