Detroit Tigers Blown Out In Extra Innings, Valverde Gives Up 4 in 11th

Jose Valverde is still perfect in save situations this season. The problem is that he has been pretty awful in non-save situations all year long. Tonight, in a non-save situation he was blown out again. After an 8 pitch 10th inning, Valverde gave up a double to Josh Hamilton on the very first pitch of the 11th. After striking out the next hitter, the Tigers elected to intentionally walk Adrian Beltre to pitch to Mike Napoli in hopes of inducing a double play.

Detroit Tigers Win ALCS Game 3 Behind Mr. Fister

The Tiger pitching has been pretty good so far in the ALCS, but the Rangers have been better and that's why Detroit trailed 2 games to none going into tonight's game at Comerica Park. The Rangers got to Fister for a run in the first inning and then the game settled into another pitcher's duel as neither team would score until Victor Martinez reached the seats in the 4th with a solo homer to tie the game at 1-1. Fister took control from there while his teammates got their bats going. Miguel Cabrera had an RBI double in the 5th to put the Tigers ahead 2-1, Jhonny Peralta blasted a solo homer to extend the lead to 3-1 in the 6th

Detroit Tigers Lose On Walk-off Grand Slam in 11th

The Tigers had plenty of chances to win this one. But they didn't. Nelson Cruz hit a homer to tie it in the 7th at 3-3 off Max Scherzer then hit a walk-off grand slam to win it in the 11th off Ryan Perry. Final score: Rangers 7, Tigers 3. The Rangers now lead the American League Championship Series 2 games to none.

Rain, Rain, Go Away. Detroit Tigers and Rangers Postponed Until Monday

Rain interrupted Game 1 of the American League Championship Series between the Tigers and Texas Rangers. Game 2 was called off hours before it was scheduled to begin, and will be played tomorrow afternoon (weather permitting). The Rangers beat Detroit 3-2 in the first game which had nearly two hours worth of delays in the 5th inning. Max Scherzer will face the Rangers' Derek Holland in a game scheduled tomorrow afternoon at 4:19. The postponement also eliminates a scheduled day off for travel as Game 3 will still take place Tuesday night in Detroit.

Detroit Tigers Battle Rangers and Rain in ALCS Game One

You had to stay up pretty late to see the end of this one. If you're a Tiger fan, you didn't like the final outcome as the Texas Rangers beat the Tigers in ALCS Game 1, 3-2. The Tigers and Rangers both have explosive offensive teams, but after Mother Nature caused both starting pitchers to exit this game early, the scoring came to a halt. Justin Verlander pitched just 4 innings and gave up all three Ranger runs. Ranger starter C.J. Wilson returned to the game after the first rain delay (41 minutes) and that's when the Tigers finally got to him.

Detroit Tigers Beat Yankees, Advance To ALCS vs. Texas

This one was a nail-biter. The Tigers and Yankees in a winner-take-all deciding Game 5 of the American League Divisional Series. The Tigers got the lead early when Don Kelly and Delmon Young hit back-to-back solo homers in the first innning off Yankee rookie Ivan Nova. Doug Fister was under duress in most of the five innings he pitched for the Tigers, but left with Detroit leading 2-0.

Detroit Tigers Stink It Up, ALDS Deciding Game 5 Thursday In NY

The Tiger bats took the night off. Two of the balls that they hit hard were both caught by former Tiger centerfielder Curtis Granderson and both kept the Tigers from enjoying a big inning. Rick Porcello wasn't great, but kept his team in the game. In the 8th inning, the Yankee bats got it going and the Tiger bullpen fell apart. Phil Coke loaded the bases on three straight hits. He was replaced by Al Alburquerque who promptly balked home a run. By the time the inning was over the Yankees had added 6 runs to their lead and the rout was on.

Detroit Tigers Beat Yankees To Lead ALDS 2-1

Justin Verlander is going to win the American League Cy Young award. He demonstrated tonight why he might also get the nod as A.L. MVP. Verlander fell behind early as the Yankees scored two runs right away in the first inning. He then got into his groove and put zeros on the scoreboard until his teammates could get him a lead. Verlander struck out 11 Yankee batters in 8 innings of work. The Yankees got to Verlander for two runs in the 7th to tie the game at 4-4. I certainly didn't expect Verlander to go back out there for the 8th, but after Delmon Young hit the first pitch he saw from reliever Rafael Soriano into the right field seats to put the Tigers ahead 5-4, there was J.V. mowing down the Yankees in the 8th.

Detroit Tigers Win Game 2 Of ALDS, Beat Yankees 5-3

Max Scherzer gave the Tigers the pitching lift that they needed on the front end of today's American Leauge Divisional Series game with the Yankees in New York. Scherzer was a little wild, but held the Bronx Bombers hitless through the first 5 innings. Miguel Cabrera reached out and poked an outside pitch over the ridiculously short right field fence at Yankee Stadium for a two-run homer in the first inning.

Detroit Tigers Lose Big In ALDS Game 1

I really hate the rule that says that playoff games must be finished once they start. The Tigers could have used two more at-bats to potentially get back into tonight's game at Yankee Stadium. Instead, this game began in the bottom of the 2nd inning after last night's game was rained out. Doug Fister picked up where Justin Verlander left off last night, and kept the game close until the 6th inning. Remember that this game started out in the 2nd inning tied at 1-1. A couple of bloops and bleeders and a pair of walks led to a pair of Yankee runs and loaded the bases. Jim Leyland went to the bullpen and brought in Al Alburquerque. Tiger radio announcer Jim Price (I blame you, Jim!) couldn't help but point out the fact that Alburquerque hadn't given up a home run this season.
