March 5, 2012 Justin Verlander started his first Spring Training game of 2012 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Verlander threw a no-hitter last year against the Jays, but was content with two shutout innings today, allowing just one hit. Unlike yesterday's Tiger homer-fest, today's game was dominated by the pitching and defense, and wasn't decided until long after the starters left the game.
March 1, 2012 The Detroit Tigers begins Spring Training game action on Friday afternoon when they host Florida Southern University at Joker Marchant stadium in Lakeland, Florida. Those following the Tigers are still buzzing about a ball that new Tiger first baseman Prince Fielder hit during batting practice on Wednesday. Detroit News writer Tom Gage estimated that it traveled over 600 feet. That's a man-sized poke. The ball cleared the pine trees shown in the photo, the fence in front of the trees is nearly 400 feet.

February 24, 2012 The Detroit Tigers are pre-season favorites to win the American League Central Division title. With the signing of slugging first baseman Prince Fielder to augment an already potent batting order, baseballs will be flying out of Comerica Park this summer. The Tigers also boast one of the strongest pitching staffs in all of baseball to compliment their offensive might, which would suggest a deep playoff run or World Series appearance. When playoff and World Series tickets go on sale, season ticket holders get first dibs.

Inge, who will likely lose his job at third base once Miguel Cabrera moves across the diamond from first base is looking for a place to flash some leather for the Tigers. Ryan Raburn and Ramon Santiago had been projected to split time at the position this season.

The rest of the team will start official workouts in about a week, although many are already working out on their own. February 1, 2012 When Tiger designated hitter Victor Martinez injured his knee a little over two weeks ago, there was some speculation that he might be able to play baseball again by the end of the 2012 season. That isn't going to happen. After getting a second opinion from knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman, Martinez had microfracture surgery and repairs to his meniscus in his left knee and is awaiting a second surgery to repair his ACL.
January 26, 2012 As reported a couple of days ago, the Tigers had reached a 9-year deal with slugging first baseman Prince Fielder for $214 million. It was made official today as the son of former Tiger Cecil Fielder appeared in Detroit and tried on the Olde English "D" of the Tigers at a press conference.
January 25, 2012 Yesterday the Detroit Tigers surprised the baseball world with news that they've signed Prince Fielder to a nine-year, $214 million deal. A few years before that, a very young (very cute) Prince Fielder and dad Cecil were pitching cheeseburgers for McDonald's.
