Detroit Tigers Hang On To Beat Royals 3-1

Ryan Raburn closed his eyes and swung the bat as hard as he could.  The Kansas City pitcher hit his bat in the sweet spot and Raburn was rewarded with a two-run homer in the second inning.  That turned out to be all the offense Max Scherzer and the Tigers would need to get their second win in a row.

Detroit Tiger Bats Come To Life In Win Over Angels

Tiger starter Brad Penny gave up three runs in the first inning today.  He didn't give up another one until he allowed a solo homer in the 7th, but by then the Tigers had a lead and wouldn't relinquish it.

Detroit Tigers Lose Again

Justin Verlander only gave up one run last night.  That's usually good enough to win.  The Angels' Dan Haren didn't give up any as the Tigers could only manage two measley hits.  Angels 1, Tigers 0.

Detroit Tigers Come From Behind, Beat Giants 6-3

The Tigers needed some of their role players to come up big for a change.   Today was the day.  Ryan Raburn has been getting booed at Comerica park lately, and deservedly so.  He strikes out a lot and has made some costly errors recently.  His batting average is floundering around .200.  He got a standing ovation from the crowd today

Detroit Tigers Lose Big Again

As I was listening to the game between the Tigers and Giants on the way home from a family get-together, I heard announcer Dan Dickerson describe the San Francisco team as "light-hitting".  Not that I am superstitious, but I knew we were doomed after he uttered those words over the airwaves.

Detroit Tigers Lose in 9th To Giants 4-3

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the 8th off San Francisco closer Bryan Wilson a.k.a. "The Beard" 1-1 when Magglio Ordonez stroked a single to right.  Manager Jim Leyland went to his closer, Jose Valverde to pitch the 9th.  Valverde is 19 for 19 in save situations, but hasn't fared well in non-save situations.  He didn't fare well at all in this one.

Detroit Tigers Win, Verlander Silences Mets

Justin Verlander didn't even have his "A" game today.  But he is proving every time he takes the mound that he is one of the most formidable pitchers in the game.  He kept the Mets from putting slowpitch softball-like numbers on the scoreboard today and the Tigers won 5-2.

Detroit Tigers Mashed By New York Mets Again

At least tonight they put up a fight.  But it wasn't enough and the New York Mets continued to pound Tiger pitching to the tune of a 16-9 win.  The Tigers hit 5 homers, two by Miguel Cabrera, but every time they got back in the game the Mets would score some more.  Phil Coke gave up 4 runs in the first inning

Detroit Tigers Mauled By Mets 14-3

Rick Porcello didn't have it tonight.  He gave up 7 runs to the New York Mets and didn't make it out of the 4th inning.  Daniel Schlereth relieved Porcello and appeared to throw gas on the fire.  By the time Schlereth hit the showers, the Tigers were down 13-0.

Detroit Tigers Score Late To Win 3rd Straight

Max Scherzer pitched well enough to earn his 10th win of the season.  He didn't get it, but the Tigers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 8th to pull out a 4-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in a make-up game from a rainout from back in May.  Tiger Manager Jim Leyland had to watch his team win this one on tv, as he was thrown out for arguing with the umpires in the 7th.

Detroit Tigers Come Back To Win Big On Sparky’s Day

Before today's game, the Detroit Tigers retired former manager Sparky Anderson's uniform number.  It was a moving ceremony, with most of the 84 Tigers (Detroit's last championship) in attendance.  The ball game was well-pitched until the late innings.  Starter Brad Penny gave up two runs in the 7th and left the game behind 2-1.  Arizona starter Joe Saunders made it through 7 giving up only a solo homer to Jhonny Peralta.
