Detroit Tigers Lose To Royals, 4-3

All three games between the Tigers and Royals in this three-game series ended with a 4-3 score. Detroit won the first two, and were making a sixth inning comeback when Mother Nature intervened. The Tigers had rallied and scored twice in the sixth and had a runner in scoring position when the wind and rain caused the umpires to call out the ground crews to put the tarp on the field.

Detroit Tigers Beat K.C. 4-3, Verlander Wins 16th

On the very first pitch of the game, Alex Gordon of the Royals blasted a Justin Verlander fastball deep into centerfield. The fence at Kaufman Stadium is 410 in dead center. This one went 411, into the glove of Austin Jackson who leaped and pulled it back for a long out. That play set the tone for today's game. Kansas City would come close, but victory would be snatched away from them by the Tigers.

Detroit Tigers Beat Royals In 10, 4-3

Rick Porcello was cruising toward his 12th win of the season, and left the game in the 7th with a 3-1 lead and two runners on. Phil Coke was summoned from the bullpen to get out the left-handed hitting Mike Moustakas who was hitting .071 against lefties this season. Naturally, Coke hung a curveball which Moustakas lined into right for an RBI single. The Royals would score three in the 7th and tie the game at 3-3.

Detroit Tigers Can’t Sweep Rangers, Lose 5-2

Alexi Ogando hasn't been pitching in the Big Leagues very long. In fact, he hasn't even been a pitcher very long. The former outfielder has sure had the Tigers figured out, and dominated Detroit again today giving up just two runs in a 5-2 Texas victory.

Detroit Tigers Beat Texas Rangers 5-4

Doug Fister made his Detroit Tiger debut tonight and did what he's been doing all season long for Seattle. He made a quality start, and unlike when he pitched for the last-place Mariners, he got some run support. Fister went seven innings and gave up 3 runs, 2 of which were earned. A solo homer by Alex Avila in the 6th (his 12th) gave the Tigers a 4-3 lead, and another solo shot from Ryan Raburn in the 8th got Fister his first win since May 30th.

Detroit Tigers Slip Past Rangers On Boesch Homer

Max Scherzer wasn't at his best, but he pitched well enough to win his 12th game tonight against the defending American League Champion Texas Rangers. Scherzer left after six innings with a 5-2 lead. A steady rain was falling at Comerica Park which must have caused Tiger reliever Joquin Benoit to lose his grip. Benoit gave up two home runs in the 8th inning leading to 3 runs to let Texas tie the score at 5-5.

Justin Verlander Flirts With No-Hitter, Detroit Tigers Hang On To Win 3-2

Odds are good that one of today's starting pitchers might win the American League Cy Young award.  Justin Verlander made his case for the pitching honor by no-hitting the Angels through 7 and 2/3rds innings.  An errror by Verlander and another defensive boo-boo allowed two Angel runs to score in the 8th to make this a closer game than it should have been.

Detroit Tiger Bats Go Cold In 5-1 Loss To Angels

Detroit's top pitching prospect, Jacob Turner got a surprise start today in front of a full house at Comerica Park and a national television audience.  The 20-year old right-hander showed great poise in his Major League debut, and left the game after 5 and a third innings with the game tied at 1-1 with a runner on first.

Detroit Tigers Annihilate Angels 12-2

When Maicer Itzturis launched the second pitch of the game from Detroit's Rick Porcello into the seats, I thought, "Oh no, here we go again."  Porcello would settle down after that and scatter 5 hits over 8 innings to earn his 11th win of the season.  Brennan Boesch would tie the game in the bottom of the 1st with a moon shot that landed deep in the discount seats in right field.

Detroit Tigers Hammered By Halos

This game was ugly on way too many levels for the Tigers.  Detroit has several players in the top ten in batting average, runs batted in, pitching wins.  We sent 5 to the All-Star Game, and statistically, could have sent a couple more.  The Tigers have a lot of good players.  Yet they are not a very good team.

Detroit Tigers Lose Close Game To White Sox

Max Scherzer didn't have his best control today, and a base on balls in the second inning put a runner on base for White Sox rookie outfielder Al De Aza to reach the bleachers with a 2-run homer in his first at-bat in the Big Leagues this season.  To his credit, Scherzer held the Sox in check the rest of the way.
