June 22, 2011 ABC-12 reports that Flint police have a suspect in custody in regards to the fires that were set early yesterday morning. The person hasn't been charged yet, but all nine fires are believed to have been set on purpose.
June 22, 2011 It is almost decision time for the defense in the Casey Anthony trial. Accused of first degree murder of her two year old daughter, Casey is facing a mountain of circumstantial evidence. Her defense team has not really produced much to give the jury much to think about, or to raise a "reasonable doubt" in their minds. Will Casey take the stand?
June 21, 2011 Yesterday, you probably read the story about Michigan State Police offering to bring more officers into the city of Flint. They want to help, but the city has to move 100 people out of the jail with hopes of moving them to Midland. Sheriff Pickell responded to the issue and says he appreciates help from the state police, but says they need money from the governor to do this:
June 20, 2011 At least a dozen more Michigan State Police troopers could be assigned to the streets of Flint, but only if their are more jail beds to accommodate those that they arrest.
The State Police say that they are prepared to take on the job of "proactive patrol", which means being active in targeted area's of Flint with the most crime. But there is a catch.
June 17, 2011 Sheriff Pickell stopped in the studio today to give us an update of things going on in Genesee County. Before we started, he wanted to publicly thank the board of commissioners for rejecting a proposal to layoff more people in his office.
Robert Sayegh wanted to know why it was taking so long for his Atlantic Southeast Airlines flight from Detroit to Newark to get off the runway.
So he made a general inquiry as to the plane’s grounded nature that admittedly contained R-rated language.
June 13, 2011 As crime continues to be a growing problem in Flint, Mayor Dayne Walling talked about some more positive changes coming that will help with the issue. Just last week, the Mott Foundation invested in the community policing program and Walling was very pleased:
June 3, 2011 Even though it's been a few weeks since we were listed as the most dangerous city by the FBI, I wanted to talk with Sheriff Pickell to get his thoughts on our new title. He has an interesting perspective on the issue and also talks about what they're doing to try to restore Flint.
June 2, 2011 It's amazing what kind of influence a calm adult can have on small children, this story is very telling of how that can work. A kindergarten teacher in Monterrey, Mexico named Martha Rivera Alanis has become a hero after she sang the purple dinosaur’s ‘If All the Raindrops’ while a gang shootout took place outside.
What’s even more amazing is Rivera taped the episode and then posted the footage on Facebook. Five people died during the fight. Read more and watch the video after the jump.
