July 11, 2011 On Friday, the Genesee County Sheriff's Office released 16 more inmates and moved them to another county as part of that original release program that was put into place with the governor's office and other police agencies. Sheriff Pickell says this allowed for other agencies to put people back into the jail:
July 8, 2011 Every week, I have the pleasure meeting with Sheriff Pickell and of course the hot topic has been the jail overcrowding issue, which authorities continue to work on. This week the sheriff shared some other ongoing problems that keep arising, including a gang problem in the area, as well as other counties.
July 7, 2011 The Flint Journal reports that two men have had charges brought against them, with the attorney general saying they were part of an illegal video poker operation in several Flint bars. There has been an ongoing investigation by the attorney general's office, Michigan State police and Michigan Gaming Control Board.
Casey Anthony was sentenced to four years in jail Thursday for lying to investigators in charge of the search for her daughter, Caylee. However, Anthony could be set free as early as late this month or in the beginning of August, since she's served almost three years in jail while awaiting trial with a record of good behavior.
July 6, 2011 This story makes me so angry, especially just off the heels of the Casey Anthony verdict. Flint Police are investigating the death of a two-year-old girl, who died on Sunday at Hurley Medical Center. WNEM reports that police are questioning the father, who is currently in the Genesee County jail.

July 5, 2011 It was a good day in Genesee County last week when we heard authorities arrested 62 people in two days, with crimes ranging in armed robbery and attempted murder. This was made possible after inmates were sent to other counties, which freed up some jail space in order for these arrests to happen. There's some jail space now, but what happens as it continues to remain overcrowded because of the ongoing crime issue and Sheriff Pickell says something has to be done:

July 1, 2011 Flint police have arrested 62 felons, who had a combined total of 129 warrants, according to The Flint Journal. A press conference was held yesterday morning to discuss the arrests, with Sheriff Pickell, Prosector David Leyton and Attorney General Bill Schuette all on hand to give the details.
June 28, 2011 We've been reading so many stories about drag racing and the dangers of it in the last couple of months. Last month, there was the incident of the boy that got hit at a race and police were thinking about charging the father for bringing him to the race in the first place. Many people were torn saying the races are good and bad, but now a new ordinance has been passed, according to WNEM.
Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was convicted Monday of nearly all of the 20 charges of corruption that had been brought against him.
A jury found Blagojevich guilty of 17 out of the 20 charges brought against him. He was acquitted on one count of bribery and the jury was unable to reach verdicts on two counts of attempted extortion, CNN reported.
June 24, 2011 Earlier this week, Sheriff Pickell mentioned a deal they were trying to work on with the state in regards to moving some inmates to free up some jail space. He suggested they needed help from the state in order to pay for the costs and a plan has been put into place.
