This is really, REALLY hard to watch.

The Tigers needed to win tonight's game to have a chance at home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They also needed the Angels to beat the Rangers. They made good on the first part of the deal, even after falling behind 3-0 to the Indians. Rick Porcello pitched six decent innings tonight, giving up three runs on just five hits. The Tigers have owned the Cleveland Indians in the second half of this season. That wouldn't change in tonight's game despite a 30 minute rain delay. Max Scherzer became the first 15-game winner for the Tigers not named Verlander since Kenny Rogers pitched for Detroit. Scherzer didn't have his best game, but his offense gave him enough backup to get the victory.

Doug Fister is now 11-13 for the season. That doesn't sound all that impressive unless you consider that he was 3-12 with Seattle before being traded to the Tigers. Fister got no help offensively when he pitched for the Mariners. That wasn't a problem tonight. While Fister was putting up zeros, the Tigers were boosting their batting averages. Justin Verlander only gave up three hits today in six innings of work. Two of them were two-run homers to Shelley Duncan, and Verlander finished the sixth trailing 4-2. Austin Jackson was named American League "Player of the Week" for his incredible offensive production last week where his batting average was well above .500. Tonight, he made two outs in the first inning. That's actually a good thing. The fact that Jackson had the opportunity to make two outs in the same inning meant that his teammates were doing some serious damage to the Cleveland

Doug Fister pitched one of the best games of his young career this afternoon when the Tigers really needed it. Mr. Fister struck out 13 Indians batters in 8 innings of work today to notch his 4th win since coming to Detroit in a trade from Seattle. Fister was 3-12 as a Mariner, but is 4-1 as a Tiger. Today's win puts Cleveland 7.5 games behind the first place Tigers with 21 games left to play.

This was a day when everybody in the lineup padded their stats. Andy Dirks came in as a defensive replacement after the game was already out of hand and had 4 RBI on two hits. Max Scherzer has been hot and cold this season. His electric arm shows the promise of possibly becoming a 20-game winner at some point in his young career. Tiger fans are hoping Scherzer can help the team win some important games in Detroit's drive for the American League Central title, especially against their rivals from Cleveland.

The Cleveland Indians had beaten the Tigers 13 times in a row at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Tiger ace Justin Verlander has stopped a lot of Detroit losing streaks this year, and tonight would be no different. The Cleveland Indians wouldn't make it easy for Verlander.

After losing a hearbreaker in 14 innings last night/early this morning to Cleveland 3-2, the Tigers looked like a beaten team from the get-go in tonight's game with the Indians. Cleveland pounded out 18 hits and chased Tiger starter Rick Porcello in the 4th inning.
