In a little over a month, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Flint hope you'll join them for some fun on the lanes to help them continue helping young people in our community. February 23rd through 26th of 2012 are the dates for this years' tenpin extravaganza. Get together teams of your family, friends and co-workers. Galaxy Bowling Center on Hill Road in Grand Blanc will be the location.
The Friends of the Flint Public Library invite you to donate gently used books, cd's, dvd's and tapes tomorrow at the Main Branch of the FPL. An Illinois man accidentally gave away his life savings when he made a clothing donation to his local Goodwill store. The 80-year-old man, who lived through the Great Depression, didn't trust banks, so he had sewn the $13,000 nest-egg into the lining of a coat.
It's been called the "Mother of All Hot Wheels Tracks", and the video of this amazing setup has become a YouTube sensation. But its creators hope that after you watch the little car speed through 2,000 feet of track, you'll take a minute to donate to their favorite charity.
Myers Elementary School in Grand Blanc is sponsoring a "Stuff the Holiday Bus for FISH" promotion to help raise food and supplies for those in need. FISH is a non-profit volunteer organization that maintains a food pantry to provide emergency foods to eligible residents within the Grand Blanc School District. Demand this year is exceptionally high and the kids at Myers Elementary are collecting non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products, paper items and cleaning products to help stuff the bus! Last year FISH provided 289 Christmas Baskets with food and gifts.
Well, isn't that special! The Church Lady probably wouldn't approve, but 12 elderly gentlemen between the ages of 64 and 87 have taken it all off, in an effort to raise money for their church, The First Parish in Framingham, Massachusetts. (Prepare yourself, there's a video after the jump.)
Calling all football fans! You are invited to join the Whaley Children's Center for their first annual "Battle of the Mitten Rooftop Tailgate Party"! The beer and pop will be ice cold and the game will be broadcast live at the James P. Rutherford Parking Structure in downtown Flint.
Saturday, August 27th at Goodrich Country Club the 4th Annual Autism Charity Golf Outing takes place. It's a four-man scramble event that includes a continental breakfast, a hot dog at the turn, Mexican buffet for dinner, 50/50 raffles and a prize raffle. The cost is $65 per golfer. Monies raised at the event will go to Autism Speaks and GOAL (a local special needs activity group).
The games begin at 6pm Friday night, July 22nd and they continue through 6pm Sunday, July 24th, rain or shine! It's all for a good cause too, to benefit the Genesee County Catholic Charities, an organization that operates many local food banks.
