An Illinois man accidentally gave away his life savings when he made a clothing donation to his local Goodwill store. The 80-year-old man, who lived through the Great Depression, didn't trust banks, so he had sewn the $13,000 nest-egg into the lining of a coat.

Stuff The Holiday Bus!

Myers Elementary School in Grand Blanc is sponsoring a "Stuff the Holiday Bus for FISH" promotion to help raise food and supplies for those in need. FISH is a non-profit volunteer organization that maintains a food pantry to provide emergency foods to eligible residents within the Grand Blanc School District. Demand this year is exceptionally high and the kids at Myers Elementary are collecting non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products, paper items and cleaning products to help stuff the bus! Last year FISH provided 289 Christmas Baskets with food and gifts.

4th Annual Autism Charity Golf Outing On Schedule

Saturday, August 27th at Goodrich Country Club the 4th Annual Autism Charity Golf Outing takes place. It's a four-man scramble event that includes a continental breakfast, a hot dog at the turn, Mexican buffet for dinner, 50/50 raffles and a prize raffle. The cost is $65 per golfer. Monies raised at the event will go to Autism Speaks and GOAL (a local special needs activity group).

Area's Needy Families Benefit from Local Food Distributions

Continuing its fifth season of providing food for the area's needy families and individuals, Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc is hosting a free food distribution this Saturday.

Each month this summer, HSLC is purchasing thousands of pounds of food from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, and distribute it on a first-come, first-served basis.
