Thursday, Cedar Point unveiled GateKeeper, a new 4,100 foot wing roller coaster that hits speeds of almost 70 miles per hour. Take a ride here. The ride peaks at 170 feet and riders can get a glimpse of the beach – briefly – before flipping sideways into the first of six loops. Take a ride.

I feel like it's the first day of school, and I'm being asked to write about what I did over the summer. A lot has happened in the last week or so since I've been on vacation - Back To The Bricks, The Crim, Hurricane Irene, and an earthquake. Wow!

One of my vacation highlights was a trip to Cedar Point. If you haven't gone lately, it's a great time to go, because the crowds have thinned out a bit.

'Coasting For Kids' At Cedar Point

Coaster riding takes on a new meaning on July 24th at the Sandusky, Ohio amusement park. The "Coaster for Kids" promotion helps raise money for "Give the Kids the World", a Florida-based nonprofit organization that provides week-long vacations for children with life threatening illnesses. In the two years that Cedar Point has sponsored it, they have raised more than $27,000. Here's how it works:

It's one of our families favorite places to spend a couple of days of vacation. No, I'm not a big roller-coaster fan, but I am a big fan of the beach and water at the park. The picture that accompanies this was taken from our cabin at Lighthouse Point inside Cedar Point. The giant ore ships pass by there frequently, and often a pirate ship appears and fires their cannons. I assume this is a ride available at other locations around the bay.
