9/11 Anniversary

The horrific September 11, 2001, attacks claimed the lives of 2997 individuals. Of those, 42 were from Michigan, and 2 from Genesee County. Today we honor them.

Of the almost 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, sixteen had ties to Michigan. Only one was from the Flint area, Eric Bennett.

This day will never go away, and it will likely become harder for all of us who lived through it.

When I think back to September 11, 2001, I remember the chaos, the anger, the fear, and the confusion that surged through all of us. I also remember feelings of mourning for those that we lost, thankfulness for those who helped rescue those who could be saved, and unity as the country came together as one.

Staring at 6 p.m. tonight, the 9/11 Memorial Plaza open to the public for a Tribute in Light.
