Gabi Finlayson, who attends Lone Peak High School in Utah, was told to wear a winter coat over her dress at a school dance because it was 'too inappropriate.'

The school has a dress code: straps must be two-inches across each shoulder. Gabi says that her dress adhered to that standard, but school officials said otherwise.

Gabi says it was embarrassing, but she says there's a takeaway lesson from this: "Maybe instead of teaching girls they should cover themselves up, we should be teaching boys that we’re not just sex objects that you can look at and derive pleasure."

Pat worked in Utah for a few years, and I've watched Big Love. Not the same thing, obviously. But the Mormon culture is fascinating to me, and I have to assume that this is an 'LDS thing.' I've never been one to wear revealing clothing; even back in my college party days, I always wore black pants and a top that covered up. I will say that, in high school, one of my prom dresses had NO straps. *gasp*

Is the school's reasoning okay, or did they go too far?
