Stray Dog Nurses Orphaned Pups in Saginaw

A momma dog who was separated from her puppies has taken to raising a different dog's babies, and we can't even.

Saginaw County Animal Care and Control responded to a call on Wednesday about a dog that was having trouble giving birth to her puppies. They took the mother to a vet, where she gave birth but passed away shortly afterward. Five of her nine babies survived.

Back at the shelter, a dog named Mamba had come in who had given birth to puppies but had gotten separated from them. So, she started caring for the puppies like they were hers.

When they are weaned off her milk, they will be taken to the Freeland Correctional Facility, where they will be trained by prisoners as part of the Iron Paws program. Said program formalizes obedience training for shelter pets to give them a better chance of being adopted.
