Another testament to the power of social media.

A high school teacher from New York found out from her father, who's a rabbi, that nobody was planning to attend the funeral of an elderly woman named Francine Stein. She had died without any surviving family. So, she posted a call to action on Facebook...and it worked.

About 30 people attended...and not one of them knew her personally. They held a traditional Jewish service for her, and a local care service provided transportation and water. An employee from the home that she lived in said that she was very loved, but due to poor health, the people who live at the home couldn't attend. The rabbi is planning on having a service there so that they can remember Francine.
