Stan Lee (Yes, That Stan Lee) to Become 007-Style Hero in 1970s-Set Action Movie

He’s had a hand in creating some of the most beloved superheroes of all time for Marvel, but now comic-book icon Stan Lee is getting the hero treatment. 20th Century Fox has reportedly acquired the rights to Lee’s life story with the intention of turning it into a fictional action-adventure movie set in the 1970s, with Lee as a James Bond-style protagonist — now there’s a series of words you’d never conceive of stringing together.

THR reports that 20th Century Fox is planning a ’70s-set movie following the adventures of a fictionalized action hero version of Stan Lee, the comic-book legend who co-created several superheroes for Marvel Comics, including Spider-Man and the Hulk. The project is being described as similar to Roger Moore-era James Bond and Kingsman: The Secret Service. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey (The Maze RunnerTwilight) will produce the untitled film project for Fox, which is responsible for the X-Men and Fantastic Four film franchises based on Marvel properties.

A ’70s period action-adventure movie that casts Lee as a fictional hero on par with Bond is a surprising development, to say the least, but it’s just as surprising that it’s coming from 20th Century Fox and not Marvel Studios, which has seen far more success (and consistency of quality) with their superhero franchises — though Fox is the studio that gave us Kingsman, so maybe we can split the difference.

Aaaaand…Insert obvious joke about Stan Lee making a cameo in the Stan Lee movie here.
