So far, the incredible and heartbreaking footage of the F5 tornado that devastated Moore, OK has been shot from the ground. Now see what that massive killer storm looked like from space.

On Monday, May 20, as weather conditions became conducive for severe weather across the plain states of the U.S., the NOAA Satellite and Information Service put the GOES-13 into rapid scan operations. The rapid scan status tells the satellite to take images every five minutes, as opposed to the standard thirty minute window.

This additional imagery will help meteorologists understand and predict the rapidly changing weather conditions that contribute to storms like the one that spawned the epic F5 tornado that decimated Moore, OK.
