Robin Gibb’s son, Robin-John Gibb, has released information that his father did not die of cancer, as many sources have reported. Instead, his son says that he died of kidney failure.

Robin-John Gibb described his father’s passing as “peaceful and dignified” to The Express. It was also noted that at least 14 relatives and friends remained close as he approached death.

“It wasn’t the cancer that killed my father; those reports are wrong,” the grief-stricken son said, revealing that other complications claimed Gibb’s life. “Dad had actually gone into remission and the cancer was completely unrecognizable, it was too small to detect. No scan could see it. He actually died of kidney failure.”

He continued, “Basically my father died of kidney and liver failure. It was a really sudden downturn.”

The official statement regarding Gibb’s death did mention his cancer, which is likely why media reports ran with the idea that he passed away from that condition.

A memorial service is set for St. Paul’s Cathedral in September.

R.I.P., Robin.
