Longtime Detroit Red Wings goaltender Chris Osgood called it a career on Tuesday, announcing his retirement following 17 years in the NHL and leading the Wings to Stanley Cups in 1998 and 2008.

Only nine goalies in NHL history had more wins than "Ozzie" (401), who also counted 50 shutouts and a 2.49 goals-against average among his career statistics. While the team continues to search for a backup goalie for Jimmy Howard, Osgood has been offered a position with the team developing young goal-tending talent, team officials say.
