He's only been on the job for a few days, but he's already made a rookie mistake. You won't believe where the newly hired security guard for a Lapeer area elementary school left his gun unattended!

School officials are calling it a "breach in security protocol". A security guard, recently hired at Lapeer's Chatfield School left an unloaded handgun unattended "for a few moments" in a school bathroom. The officer, who's name wasn't released, is a retired Lapeer County sheriff's deputy. He was hired to provide added security to the kindergarten through eighth grade students who attend Chatfield.

It's not been made clear if any disciplinary action will taken against the security guard. Lapeer County Prosecutor Byron Konschuh said that since no one was hurt, criminal charges would most likely not be filed.

What action do you think should be taken? Do you think this is a good example of why armed security guards don't belong in our schools?
