Parents of Girl in Kansas ‘Tornado Selfie’ Criticized [PHOTO]

Are people overreacting? Or should the parents have already had this girl in a safe, underground shelter?

The parents of the little girl in the picture are catching some serious grief over the photo. The tornado touched down in Reno County, Kansas on Monday, only caused damage to a farm and power lines. No injuries were reported. I'm a huge storm geek, and I absolutely loved this drone footage of the tornado:

Needless to say, people don't think this little girl should've been outside, taking photos during the storm. Her parents said that the tornado was nowhere near them, and that they'd obviously protect her if it was.

I actually agree with the parents! I'm no meteorologist, but I've been interested in severe weather my entire life. I truly believe that these parents knew that there was no imminent danger. Seems to me to be a "Kansas" thing that, unless you're from there, you wouldn't understand. What do you think?
