December 3, 2011 The second annual YMCA of Greater Flint Santa Run/Walk attracted approximately 1400 Santas to this year's event. Everyone who entered got a 5-piece Santa suit to run or walk in, and the turnout was tremendous
December 3, 2011 Being a lifelong resident of Flint, I wanted to reminisce about stores that were once in Flint and have now disappeared. Flint has a vast history from the automotive industry which made Flint a great area to live in and run a business. Some of these stores disappeared after the decline of the automotive world and some are gone due to the growing popularity of chain stores. Take a look at my top five stores that I miss in Flint.
November 29, 2011 The 1st annual YMCA Santa Run attracted a stampede of 800 Santas last year. I was one of the Ho-ho-ho herd, and am pretty excited to do it again this Saturday (Dec. 3). The YMCA of Greater Flint Santa Run/Walk is a charity event featuring a 5k and 1 mile route around downtown Flint. The event is not timed and is open to everyone. Run, walk, bring your family and friends. Strollers are welcome! This event was a lot of fun and looks to be much bigger this year. The start/finish is at the Flint YMCA at 411 E. Third Street. The event begins at noon.
November 28, 2011 The Salvation Army will be taking applications from Genesee County residents who need Christmas assistance starting Wednesday, November 30th through Friday, December 2nd from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm each day. The program is designed to help Genesee County residents who would otherwise be unable to celebrate Christmas.
November 28, 2011 Tomorrow is the 3rd Annual Holiday Parade in downtown Flint and it also features a fundraiser for Autism. There will be floats and Santa, reindeer, carriage rides, and more! It runs all day from 9am. Here is how you can help in the fight against Autism:

It's Tuesday, November 29th from 5pm-8:30pm, and the evening of music, lights, parades, floats, carriage rides, and reindeer is all free! Get a free picture with Santa and parking is free too!

November 8, 2011 The second Friday of every month is Artwalk in downtown Flint, sponsored by the Greater Flint Arts Council (GFAC). From 6-9 pm enjoy plenty of art, music, food and beverages free of charge at several downtown venues
November 8, 2011 Friday, November 11th at noon the Salvation Army will kick off the 2011 Red Kettle Campaign with a special ceremony at their downtown offices in Flint. The local goal for 2011 will be announced then and light refreshments will be served. Last year, nearly 1 million dollars was raised to help families in need in Flint and Genesee County. The majority of the Salvation Army's funds come from the Red Kettle campaign, so they hope you can help when you see their bellringers.
November 6, 2011 While the Christmas season hasn't offcially started for most of us, it's not too early to start planning for it. The Flint Downtown Development Authority is seeking participants for the 2011 Holiday Parade which annually features holiday-themed floats and banners. The parade is scheduled for Tuesday, November 29th at 6:00 pm. There is a top prize of $400 for the best-made float.
October 28, 2011 Next Thursday, the "Bikes on the Bricks" committee will have a ceremony to award several local charities donations for their programs. Recipients this year include Friends of the Flint Police (FOP), the Police Activity League (PAL), the Old Newsboys, and Young Marines of Genesee County. "Bikes on the Bricks" this year, was the biggest one yet! There were 753 riders and 289 passengers part of the community ride.
