March 26, 2012 Let's face it, the city of Flint needs to raise some money. If you want to park your vehicle on or close to Saginaw Street, it'll cost you a dollar an hour. The new parking meters will be a little different that the ones we've seen before. The kiosks will be solar powered and will take coins and credit cards. It is expected that all the parking kiosks will be operational in about 30 days.
March 22, 2012 Six different locations in downtown Flint will display art objects that you can enjoy and possibly take home with you. It's the ninth annual Cool City Art Auction, which raises money for a half dozen local art organizations. Tickets to the event are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, which entitles you to admission, food, drinks and entertainment at each venue. Hours of the event are from 5-10 pm.
March 13, 2012 The annual Pot O' Gold 4-mile run/walk will take place this Saturday in downtown Flint. The race starts at 5:30 pm and will feature a flat and fast course through the U of M-Flint campus and the College/Cultural Center area before finishing downtown near the Masonic Temple. All race finishers will get a medal.
March 9, 2012 The second Friday of every month is Artwalk in downtown Flint, presented by the Greater Flint Arts Council. Enjoy art at several venues in the downtown area, all within walking distance of the GFAC on Saginaw Street (next to Halo Burger). The event goes from 6-9 pm and is FREE. Your best bet is to start at the GFAC and pick up a map of the participating locations. Enjoy art, food, music and beverages at several downtown venues. This event is FREE.
February 23, 2012 Got maple syrup? A hearty appetite? National Pancake Week continues through Saturday (Feb 25). Originally the celebration surrounds Shrove or Pancake Tuesday. My take on this is a week-long celebration of Fat Tuesday. It is also geared to recognize the history and continuing popularity of pancakes.

February 9, 2012 The second Friday night of every month is Artwalk in downtown Flint, courtesy of the Greater Flint Arts Council (GFAC). The event is free and goes from 6-9 pm. Several venues within walking distance of the GFAC will have art on display. Free food, beverages and music are available at the GFAC and some of the other spots on the Artwalk. You can pick up a map of all the participating venues at the GFAC on Saginaw Street, next door to Halo Burger.
January 20, 2012 It debuted in August and is turning into a big success story. It's the Greater Flint Arts Council's free Jazz Walk in downtown Flint on the fourth Thursday of every month.
January 19, 2012 I lived in Evansville, Indiana for five years back at the turn of the century, and drove home often to visit with friends and family. I enjoyed the eight-hour drive, and found that there are several different ways to make the trip.
I became very fond of the stretch of I-75 that went through downtown Cincinnati. I haven't made that trip in a while, and this recent vacation gave me the opportunity to drive the stretch of 75 from Cincinnati to Florida for the first time.

December 28, 2011 The New Year's Resolution 8k run and 5k walk will take place on Saturday, December 31st at 2:00 pm at the downtown Flint YMCA at 411 East 3rd Street. If your goal is to be fit and active in 2012, why not start a little early? 8k (kilometers) is just under 5 miles, 5k is just over 3 miles, both distances are very doable even if you haven't been training.
