Back to the Bricks chairman Al Hatch says efforts are underway to erect more than a dozen statues of historic auto figures in the downtown area in conjunction with the annual "Back to the Bricks" event. The statues would be located around the downtown area, and in the college campus area. The first statue to go up would be that of Louis Chevrolet. It would honor him in this, the 100th anniversary of his namesake auto company.
The group who participated in the Michigan Mitten tour returned to Flint over the weekend. They left on the 17 and made stops in Port Huron, Bay City, Mackinaw City, Traverse City, Ludington, Holland, with a final stop at Michigan International Speedway, according to ABC-12.
Are you looking for something to do this weekend that involves looking at a lot of really cool vehicles? The auto fair is going on at Sloan Museum, where you'll have a chance to check out over 600 cars, trucks and motorcycles. This is also the venue where the group from the Mid Michigan Mitten Tour wraps up their week long event, so you'll have a chance to talk with them about their trip.
Flint Mayor Dayne Walling sat down this morning to discuss the budget and new businesses coming to downtown. The budget for the next fiscal year was approved by City Members on Monday and Walling is pleased with the outcome:
About a month ago, I talked about the Back to the Bricks Michigan Mitten tour and how the group was in the planning stages of the event. We talked to co-chair Karen Bolton this morning and the tour starts on Friday, June 17 and you still have time to be a part of the event.
I must admit, with all the crazy weather we had throughout May, I almost forgot that Memorial Day is the unofficial start to Summer around here. It took a couple of 90-degree days put things back into focus for me. You too?
In honor of Memorial Day, here are some sure-fire signs that Summer has returned to the Vehicle City.
Planning continues for Back to the Bricks, which will take place in August. Last week, I mentioned the Michigan Mitten Promo tour, which is one of the new venues for Back to the Bricks and today, Chairman & Founder Al Hatch talked about Tune-Up week, which is also new this year.
It's time to start getting ready for Back to the Bricks which will take place the end of August. To start promoting the event, people are getting ready for the Michigan Mitten tour, which starts June 17.
It's a good feeling to see the Weather Ball in Downtown Flint more red than blue these days. After those record-breaking temperatures we had this past Sunday, the summer traditions in and around Flint don't seem as far away as they did when we were shoveling snow just a few weeks ago.
When we were at Back to the Bricks last summer, I noticed how much Downtown Flint has come back to life. The beauty is returning with new buildings, new restaurants, renovations, (we won't mention the Genesee Towers), and the good ol' Weather Ball.
It looks like the "Back To The Bricks" excitement has grown in the suburbs. Now, it's doubling its length and expanding to five new communities.
