Who Is Running The City of Flint?

Last week, a judge near Lansing ruled that Flint’s Emergency Financial Manager, Mike Brown, was appointed illegally, as that appointment violated Michigan’s Open Meetings Act.  Once that ruling came down, Mayor Dayne Walling and the Flint City Council were back on the job.  However, that didn’t last long.

Teenager Refuses to Apologize to Governor After Tweeting He ‘Sucked’ [VIDEO]

Emma Sullivan claims her initial tweets, using the Twitter hashtag (he) #blowsalot were meant only as a joke. The 18-year-old high school senior was on a field trip, at which Kansas Governor Sam Brownback spoke, and a couple of seemingly innocent tweets have put the teen in the center of a controversy.

In today's social-media driven world, would you stand behind your child? Would it be acceptable to say, for example, Governor Rick Snyder "sucks," or to use the hashtag #blowsalot when tweeting about him?

Brownback's office has since apologized to her for blowing the whole thing out of proportion. Hit the jump for more, and a video from CNN.

Yesterday’s Election Filled With Surprises And Suspense

After all of the political ads on TV, radio, and even voice mail, the November 2011 election has come and gone.  I was keeping a close eye on the results throughout the evening, and was amazed at how close some of the races were right up until the end.

There were interesting twists and surprises including voter turnout like that of a presidential election, an amazingly close recall vote against Paul Scott, and more bad financial news for Flint just hours before the polls closed.

Get Ready For Winter – Shake Your Mailbox

A couple of weeks ago Gov. Rick Snyder officially proclaimed the third Saturday of October to be "Shake Your Mailbox Day" in Michigan! Maybe you missed it, but it is a great idea to do before the snow hits! The day started in 2008 as the innovative idea of one county frustrated by residents' complaints of damaged mailboxes. In most instances where mailboxes are damaged, the snow plow doesn't actually hit the mailbox, the force of the snow thrown from the roadway is enough to knock down a loose, or poorly supported mailbox. If the mailbox moves when shaken, it might not withstand winters wrath.

Governor Snyder Proposes Car Registration Rate Hike to Pay for Roads

If Governor Rick Snyder gets his way, it will cost you $120 more each year to register your vehicle in Michigan. Snyder is also suggesting local governments can charge up to an additional $40 per year, which would be used locally.

Is it worth it? Sound off in the comments section. Certainly Michigan's roads need attention, but are you in favor of paying $120 more per year for each of your vehicles?

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder May Not Run for Re-Election in 2014

Governor Rick Snyder told the Michigan Information and Research Service (MIRS) that he may not run for re-election in 2014, if he's able to fully carry out his agenda in only one term.

How many "Recall Governor Snyder" signs have you seen lately? (I see four on my way home from work every day.) How many teachers or state employees do you know that are less than pleased with the adjustments that have been made to their income?

Gov. Rick Snyder’s Daughter’s School Begs for Funding [VIDEO]

Governor Snyder's daughter attends a private school - Greenhills School, in Ann Arbor.  The annual tuition? $20,000.  However, that's apparently not enough.  The school has posted a video on YouTube appealing for funds.

Ironic, don't you think, when you consider the fact that Governor Snyder just signed legislation which will cut per-pupil funding for Michigan public school students by $370, bringing the yearly allowance down to $6,846.  That's quite the comparison.
