It was election day yesterday so hopefully you made it to the polls. It looks like Mayor Dayne Walling and former City Administrator Darryl Buchanen will face off in the November election, with Walling winning by a two to one margin, according to the Flint Journal.
The other day, The United States Post Office announced they were closing offices including 12 in Michigan and others were going to be reviewed for potential closures down the road. One being looked at is the downtown Flint location and many leaders and businesses are speaking out against it.
A few months ago, Flint City Hall was investigated by the FBI and it looks like it's been an ongoing project. According to ABC-12, funding for $1.3 million in federal grants for the city of Flint has been suspended by the Department of Energy as they continue to investigate some of the funds and what they've been used for.
It was a good day yesterday for Flint and state police who worked together with the community and were able to arrest five people in connection to the East Side arsons. Over 100 fires have taken place since April and as Mayor Dayne Walling says, justice is moving forward.
The other night, Flint City Council members brought up the idea again of trying to find a way to reopen the city jail. Voters said no on the May ballot, but they're still working on ways to be able to do it and Mayor Dayne Walling is in full support of the jail reopening:
About a month ago, we learned that General Motors was working on a project that could bring even more jobs into the area. The plan was to build a paint shop near Flint's Truck Assembly Plant and now the state has approved a Brownfield Credit for the project, according to ABC-12.
As crime continues to be a growing problem in Flint, Mayor Dayne Walling talked about some more positive changes coming that will help with the issue. Just last week, the Mott Foundation invested in the community policing program and Walling was very pleased:

The Flint Journal reports the FBI was visiting Flint City Hall yesterday to investigate an ongoing issue, but they can't say what it's pertaining to. Could it be from some of the grants the city has received in the past?
Following last week's big announcement, General Motors may invest more money, which could be used on vacant land at Flint General Assembly Plant. ABC-12 reports this potential investment could bring in an additional 50 jobs to the area.
Last week was the deadline to submit a nomination for the upcoming mayoral election. Nine candidates are vying for the spot, including current Flint Mayor Dayne Walling. Rod and I had the pleasure of speaking with the mayor on Thursday and we asked him about the upcoming election.
