Senate lawmakers approved the legislation yesterday in committee.

If it passes, we would become the eighth state in the country to allow the medication in schools. Senator Jim Ananich (D) of Flint is one of the sponsors of the bill, and says that overdoses in middle school are becoming more common.

Schools would have to meet certain requirements to have Narcan available, and staff would have to receive nurse-approved training.
