The Detroit Tigers played their first game at Comerica Park this season, and before it started the team raised a flag to honor the late Sparky Anderson, their former manager.

Sparky would have been proud as the Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 5-2.  Max Scherzer pitched six workman-like innings, giving up one run to get the win, his second of the young season.  Victor Martinez drove in three runs with a bases loaded double to power the offense.  44 thousand hardy Tigers fans braved cool and damp weather to cheer for their team, and all walked away happy!

Tigers and Royals will square off again tomorrow afternoon in Detroit.  Former reliever Phil Coke gets the start in the 4:10 pm contest against Kansas City.

The Tigers are now 3-4 on the season.
