A very sad and violent weekend comes to an end in Detroit.

Ten people were shot, one fatally, on Detroit's west side over the weekend at a block party.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the incident occurred at a basketball court on Webb and Dexter on the city's west side on Saturday night, during a block party. There were quite a few children were at the party, some of them in strollers. Police say that people attending the party have not been cooperative with the investigation, but also that it's a "miracle" that no children were shot.

Assistant police chief Steve Dolnut said, "I think one individual was the target; the others just happened to be at this party."

At least three women were shot, and one man remains in serious condition. Police have not yet released the identities of those who were shot.

What an awful story. When will the violence stop? I feel so helpless. I wish I could help, but I don't know how.
