One man was killed, and seven other sustained injuries as a ride malfunctioned last night (7/26) at the Ohio State Fair.

Officials say the ride passed two inspections before the fair opened to the public on Wednesday.

The incident occurred Wednesday evening around 7:20, when a row of seats broke away from the Fire Ball ride. The ride has about six rows of seats, which spin about 40 feet above the ground, as the entire structure swings back and forth like a pendulum.

According to CNN, the seven people injured in the mishap were taken to a nearby hospital, and two individuals are in critical condition.
