An Ohio teenager has been arrested and charged with reckless homicide, after the remains of her newborn baby were found buried in her backyard.

Officials say Brook Skylar Richardson's baby was "born alive, and not a stillborn baby," according to the prosecutor and medical examiner's report.

The girl's attorney, Charles M. Rittgers characterized Richardson as a good girl who recently graduated from high school, and was a member of the National Honor Society. He added that she was also a member of the school's cheerleader squad.

She didn’t drink. She wasn’t a partier or a smoker. By all measures a very good girl who helped children… She’s by all means a very good person,” Rittgers said.

The Dayton Daily News reports Richardson is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on August 1st.
