Konnie Tabbert and John Jeffire met at a pub in Frankenmuth about six months ago, and were instantly drawn to each other. They plan to be married soon, and their wedding will be the first granted by the newly-formed Michigan chapter of 'Wish Up a Wedding'.

Wish Upon a Wedding is a national nonprofit organization that grants weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness and other life-altering circumstances.

Konnie suffers from Chiari malformation, a rare abnormality in the brain that causes part of the brain to extend into the spinal column. The condition wreaks havoc on her central nervous system, restricting the flow of spinal fluid to the brain.

She also suffers from a collagen defect that results in very thin vascular system and hyper mobility called  Ehlers–Danlos syndrome.

Tabbert told WXYZ that the grant is a dream come true. “For Laura and her team [at Wish Upon a Wedding] to step in and to give me a day that I don’t have to stress about, I don’t have to worry about where  the cost is coming from…I can concentrate on being well.”
