New Nike Ad Featuring Overweight Boy – Inspiring Or Cruel [Poll]
We have been hearing a lot about the epidemic of overweight young people in America lately. Nike is now featuring an overweight young boy in a new ad campaign, sparking a heated debate. Is the ad cruel or inspiring? You can watch this Nike commercial and decide after the jump.
The young man featured is Nathan Sorrell, a 200 lb twelve year old from London, Ohio. Critics of the ad call it "degrading", and Nathan does admit that shooting the commercial was exhausting, and he even threw up, but it was also an awakening. He and his mom have promised to help each other lose their extra weight.
"The idea behind 'Find Your Greatness' is to inspire and energize everyday athletes everywhere to celebrate their achievements, participate and enjoy the thrill of an athletic lifestyle." said Ryan Greenwood, Nike UK Head of PR and Communication.
Please share your thoughts. Is Nike taking advantage of a chubby kid to sell their shoes or is this ad an inspiration that might put a dent in childhood obesity? Take the poll.
