Both the United Way of Genesee County and the MTA have contributed 5,000 passes a piece.

The 10,000 free bus passes will be donated to seven local organizations, who will then pass them out to people who need transportation to jobs, doctors appointments, grocery shopping, etc.

Of course, there's a need for more than just 10,000. The United Way and MTA are hoping that this will help motivate other organizations to start donating themselves.

The seven organizations that will be receiving the passes are Clio Human Service Fund, FARR, Catholic Charities, Carriage Town Ministries, My Brother's Keeper, the Salvation Army and the Shelter of Flint.
