Think of this as a tribute to mother's dying 21 month old son. Her request is simple. Create a special memory for, and with, your child tonight. Read the story behind this touching plea after the jump.

A few weeks ago, doctors at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh told Erik and Diane Roberts that nothing more could be done for their 21 month old son Ryan. Ryan was born with Down Syndrome and a heart defect, and has spent most of his short life in a hospital undergoing multiple surgeries. After their sad conversation with doctors, Diane and Erik issued a DNR order for Ryan. Diane updated her Facebook with the sad news, and cards, gifts, stuffed animals, and words of love and support poured in. Both parents are grateful for the support, but they really have just one fantastic and touching request.

It's very simple, and doesn't cost a bunch of money. "Go out and create a memory with your kid. Throw a banana split on the table for dinner." says Diane. 'Wouldn't you remember having banana splits for dinner one night when you were a kid?" The idea has spread like wildfire through Facebook, in all parts of the world. "You take for granted that your kids are going to be there for a lot longer than they are.' Diane says. "You can't take tomorrow for granted."

The outcome for Ryan is still grim. Doctors only give him a few more weeks. Please send a kind thought his way, and maybe tonight would be a great night to treat your child with his favorite desert for dinner.
