Mo Pete and Charlie Bell returned home this week to be honored by headlining the 2016 class of the Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame.

Morris Peterson and Charlie Bell both made their name as stars at Michigan State University, and went on to successful NBA careers.  Both were thrilled with their awards, and Peterson went on to say,

I can't believe that I'll be mentioned with some of Flint's greatest athletes.

The other members of the 2016 class were announced Wednesday October 5th during a ceremony at the Genesys Athletic Center.  The other members include:

  • Coach Walt Head
  • Coach Bob Stoppert
  • Coach Duane Raffin
  • Track Star Tonya Lowe-Carroll
  • Soccer Star Mali Walton

There are also a few teams that will be honored as well.  The 1975 Bentley baseball team, the 1977 Grand Blanc boys cross country team, and the 94-95 Flint Northern girls basketball team.

The formal induction banquet and ceremony will be held December 3rd at the Genesys Athletic Center.

Check out a list of the best 10 athletes from Flint that I put together a few years ago.  It obviously needs to be updated with the emergence of Claressa Shields, but it gives a good idea of the rich sports history in Flint.
