Beth Tillack wasted no time in taking away her son Douglas's electronics when she saw his "D" in 7th grade Civics on a recent report card, even though that bad grade was tempered with a smiley face and the words "good job" from the teacher.

She was surprised, then angry, when her son asked for his iPod and computer back a few days later based on the fact that he made the school honor roll.
