Workers earning minimum wage in Michigan will get a raise beginning January 1st.

Minimum wage in Michigan right now is $8.50 per hour, as of January 1st, it will increase to $8.90 per hour. The increase is thanks to legislation passed in 2014 that will raise the states' minimum wage to $9.25 by 2018. This unfortunately does not apply to those positions that are tipped, like servers. If you work full time, and make minimum wage, this increase means you will make an additional $16 per week, or $832 more per year. The national minimum wage is $7,25 per hour, Michigan is one of only 29 states with a minimum wage that is above the national wage.
