Country Mill Orchard in Charlotte is getting out of the wedding business. The decision comes after a same-sex couple was denied the opportunity to celebrate their nuptials at the apple orchard, followed by an online controversy on social media.

Steve Tennes, whose family owns the orchard, says same-sex weddings are counter to his family's beliefs. Although weddings are a major part of the orchard's business, Tennes chose to nix all weddings at Country Mill, in order to be fair to everyone.

"I respect and welcome people of all backgrounds to this orchard," Tennes tells WILX. "If there is something very special like a couple who is joining together, if our religious beliefs don't match with that it is not sincere for us to take their business."
