A mother is standing up to school officials in the Detroit suburb of Northville, claiming that the unedited version of Anne Frank's diary, 'The Diary of a Young Girl' is too frank for 7th graders, calling the material "pornographic."

Gail Horalek said her daughter was bothered by the graphic nature of the new version of the memoir, citing text that "talked about Anne Frank's female genitalia." The book details some of Frank's observations as she begins to observe changes to her body during adolescence.

Horalek's fight has just begun, but she hopes to effect change with a committee assigned to examine the contents of the book. In the meantime, students at her daughter's school will continue to be read the newer, unedited version.
