Memorial Day weekend means cookouts, camping and family outings to the lake for many. The real meaning for this holiday weekend can be found at veteran's memorials and cemeteries. It's important that we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy these freedoms.

Saturday, May 26th the Flint Detachment No. 155 of the Marine Corps League Honor Guard will hold a ceremony at the Flint City Cemetery on Linden Road near Pasadena at 10 am.

Sunday, May 27th the Great Lakes National Cemetery will hold a memorial service at 1 pm. The cemetery is located at 4200 Belford Road in Holly.

Monday, Memorial Day, May 28th has plenty of activities. Burton starts with a 5k road race at 9 am at Atherton high School.

9:30 am features a memorial service at the Genesee County War Memorial in McFarlan Park in Flint at 1915 Carter Street.

10 am a Memorial Day Mass will take place at Old Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint.

Fenton will have a Memorial Day Parade starting at 10 am through the downtown area, ending at Oakwood Cemetery.

Genesee Township will hold a memorial service at 10 am at Genesee High School, 7347 N. Genesee Road, followed by a parade at 11 am.

Linden will hold a Memorial Day parade at 10 am starting at the VFW hall and ending at the cemetery. A picnic with musical entertainment follows.

Mt. Morris will hold a Memorial Day parade starting at 10 am at the Jr. High School and traveling down Saginaw St.

Davison will hold a parade and ceremony on Main Street starting at 10:30 am.

Otisville has a parade starting at noon at the Township Hall and ending at Otisville Memorial Park.

Grand Blanc Heritage Association will host an open house from 10-4 at the Grand Blanc Heritage Museum, 203 E. Grand Blanc Road.

Swartz Creek will have a memorial service at the Veteran's Memorial across from City Hall, 8083 Civic Drive at 1 pm.

Burton has their Memorial Day parade at 6 pm, followed at 8 pm by a service at the Veteran's Memorial near City Hall. Fireworks will take place at dusk.
