Over 100,000 drum fish have been found dead, washed up on a 20-mile stretch of the Arkansas River.  The mass death occurred near Ozark, Arkansas.

State officials are investigating the eerie happening, but early speculation centers on a disease.  Other theories include low levels of oxygen in the water, or temperature changes.  What makes this strange is the fact that only one fish species was affected.

A tug boat operator discovered the fish on Thursday of last week, just one day before as many as five thousand blackbirds fell from the sky only 125 miles away, in Little Rock.  The birds fell over a one-mile radius just before midnight on New Year's Eve.  Speculation surrounding the case of the mass bird death includes weather, or possibly fireworks that could have literally scared the birds to death.  An investigation is underway to determine the cause.
