37-year-old David Ranta was sentenced to 37 years to life in prison back in 1991.  He allegedly killed a rabbi during a robbery in Brooklyn, New York.  The case was reopened last year and was overturned, and now it seems that David was wrongfully convicted.

After 23 years in prison, and at 58-years-old, David was released last Thursday, but on Friday night, he suffered massive heart attack.  He did survive the heart attack, but he's still in the hospital.

His lawyer says the heart attack happened after, quote, "The accumulated trauma of being incarcerated for 23 years, coupled with the intense emotions surrounding his release."

As far as the murder goes, David's case was reopened by the New York district attorney's conviction integrity unit, after lawyers pointed out all the questionable tactics detectives used to pin the crime on David.   There was never any physical evidence linking him to the crime.  In fact, one witness says a detective told him to pick David out of a lineup.  Another woman testified that her late husband had confessed to the murder.
